vintage baby!

ahhh! can i just tell you how much i love old vintage jewelery!? not only is it exquisite, it also catches your eye (everytime!), but not in a gawdy way (well, i believe its not gawdy). here are some snap shots of some of my favorites.

I got this ring at forever 21. it has a silver band, and a marble/pearl pattern.
I ususally pair this with decorative hair pins to give off a little 50's vibe.
during the day time a wear it with a maxi dress. at night, i usually
wear this with a cute top, pencil skirt and wedges.
look at this cuff bracelet i purchased at a vintage shop on harlem and touhy! i believe it was $12. i always wear this piece with a cream top. i dont know why, i just love the combination of colors. ive also paired this with light green (be careful on the shade of green). this is a great piece to go crazy with. the color is so pretty; the gems are big enough to be considered a statement piece, but not to the point were its dominating the entire outfit.

reply to: on a quest part 3

what a find! i found this fresh, light, kelly green linen button down top at old navy for $11! it fit perfectly, and i am such a sucker for kelly green. not only does this color work well with all skin tones, it also works really well with dark hair...which i have...so yay me. jeans from ny and company for $60, which i highly recommend for women who are short, and curvy/bottom heavy. the length of the leg is ideal for us 5'0 ft chicas. boots also purchased at old navy for..i believe $40, or less. ankle boots are ideal for short women mainly because they dont hide our legs. in my opinion, if you are short and wearing knee high boots, lean more towards the pairs that slouch, and pair it with shorts, or a skirt.

i found this flower print blouse (synches at the bottom of shirt) is perfect for fall. purchased at old navy for $30, the colors alone relect that of fresh autumn leaves. im usually not a really big fan of purple and pink together, but this top paired with the crisp orange was something i couldnt say no to. i would pair this with dark skinny jeans, and a chocolate brown leather ankle boot. i also placed a dark, mustard yellow scarf  with the outfit to bring all the colors together.

the top is a cream t shirt purchased at forever 21, i believe it was less than $15. the skirt is from khols on sale for $25.the bottom is a black pleted skirt with lace trimming at the bottom. with it's thick waist band, this skirt looks exceptionally cute with a "bloused out" top ( i tried to make it look like that...) it sinches the waist like you wouldnt believe. remember to wear the skirt at the smallest point of your waist. i flipped it over so you can see the exposed zipper. cute, with a little sex appeal. i know its hard to see, but i placed some jewelery i would wear with the outfit. i picked out bright gems, patterns, and chunky earrings to make it sassy. some colors i paired the outfit with: teal blue/green, peach, pink, light blue, gold, red, and forest green. keep it casual with a sandal, or class it up with a nice wedge. hey, go bold...opt for a shoe that has a crazy, bright pattern.

on a quest

its that perfect time of the season! the weather is getting slighty less muggy these days so that means its time to bust out light jackets, hats, and scarves. i absolutely love these items because they can really make a statement to an outfit. today i am on the look out for all three items including tops.  ive noticed this fall, the look seems to lean more towards the 90's, so expect to see a lot of padded shoulders, TONS of layers, big pants and metallic colors. according to elle.com women will find turtle necks, velvet pieces, ponchos, and patchwork across the racks. the clothes seem to be bigger, and bolder so women with curves should really be picky about what find. we want to show off the curves, but we dont want to add more weight. this is quite an obstacle, however im ready to face it with open arms. lets see what i find. until next time lovers!

tip of the day

when layering necklaces, make sure that each chain has a common theme. for example, if you want to layer chains, make sure they are all the same color. you can mix pearls with chains, but its better if the chain has a pearl encorporated with it. also, make sure that you mix no more than 3 necklaces, anymore more than that is just too much. if you are wearing a collared shirt, the necklace has to lay within the shirt, NOT OUTSIDE THE COLLAR. ahhh dont do that!!! the length of the necklace is also important. short necklaces usually hit to the collar bone, medium necklace should lay on your chest (if you are wearing a V neck make sure it lays above the V, you do not want it to compete with the shirt) and long necklaces need to lay just past your chest. alright start mixing and matching and let me know your thoughts! you can even send me your pics and i will post it on here for you. have a great day!
